The purpose of this paper is to examine the nature of the People’s Republic of China’s relations with Namibia. Prior to liberation, China maintained cordial links with the South West Africa Political Organisation (SWAPO). The study is looking at the foreign relations between the two nations and the ties made for the economic development of the Republic of Namibia and how China has contributed to it. The period of study for this paper is from2007to2013, reasons being the economic crisis that took place in2008indicating the rise and falls of relations in different sectors of the economy. The theory of liberalism is used to observe the ties between the two nations. After the Namibian independence in1990, China-Namibia relations started to grow. On the22nd March1990, the day after Namibia’s independence, the two countries established a diplomatic relationship and have been developing in a firm and more balanced manner ever since. China and Namibia regard each other to be friends, sharing a new type of close partnership based on shared ideas of anti-colonialism and anti-imperialism. The two governments are popular with one another because of its effective trade diplomacy, frequent invitations of Namibian government officials for state visits to China. This paper also focuses on the brief history between China and Africa relations, mentioning the Southern African Development Community (SADC), and covers areas in which Namibia and China are highly engaged; looking at political, economic, technological, cultural and social relationships aimed at creating a win-win situation for both parties.
