As everyone knows, reading is an important means to obtain andprocess information and also takes significant proportion in all kinds ofEnglish examination. Therefore, the importance of English readingteaching has been widely accepted, and a lot of researchers and Englishteachers also put a lot of concern on how to improve middle schoolstudents’ English reading proficiency. What’s more, it is also one of theteaching goals for junior school teachers to improve students’ readingcomprehension. Reading strategy training can improve junior school andcollege school students’ ability based on the reflection and discussion onthe reading teaching, especially on literature review on the readingstrategy training. Besides, according to the description of reading abilityin the National Curriculum, we can get the conclusion that it is necessaryfor junior school students to learn reading strategy.Top students have the ability to sum up their reading strategy. Evenif they have not that kind of ability, they can understand the passagebased on their good foundation of English. But for underachievers, theynot only can’t understand the passage but also don’t know how to makeuse of reading strategy to look for the answer. So the help from the teacher is urgent for underachievers. This paper is to study the usingcondition of reading strategy by underachievers, then to testify the effectof the reading strategy using by doing experiment which depend on thequalitative and quantitative study. Firstly, the teacher will do the survey toknow about the reading strategy which is used by underachievers andthen the teacher will employ the reading strategy training onunderachievers. Two tests also are used to see whether underachievershave improved their reading ability.The paper consists of5chapters. Chapter one is the introduction.Chapter two is about the literature on the reading theory, especially thereading strategy training. Chapter3is about the methodology. Chapter4is about the results and discussion. Chapter5is about the conclusion.Based on the data, the study is successful because underachievers notonly know how to use the reading strategy to read but also improve theirreading marks.
