Teaching Listening is very important in daily communication and Englishstudying. As one of the used forms of language skills, how to teach English isvery important in our daily life. However, in the past years, teaching listeningfocused on input made by teachers, this kind of teaching focuses on teachers’ability, which provest failabilit_o be aure in exploirng listeners’ internal yused in the listening process, at the same time, it can’t improve listene’rslistening ability. It was not until1960s that people pay much attention to ther"esearch which changes from “how to teach,,to "how to learn. So,peoplebegan to show great concern about how to teach English efficiently andstudents can learn it. With the development of English teaching, it is widelyaccepted that listening is an active mental process in which a listener tries tounderstand the listening materials. So, how to teach English listening ischanging important. At present, with the background of English teachingreform, the use of computer in teaching listening is becoming a trend whichchanges traditional listening teaching into the use of computer. Thus,we havealready found the way that is how to teach listening well However,althoughcomputer-assisted Language Learning (CALL) has brought into Englishlistening class, there are many teachers who think it is a waste of time to usecomputer in English listening. So, I will conduct the paper to show how toimprove listening under the CALL environment. Eight-three students wereselected as the subject for this study, the instrument of the research is aquestionnaire and the listening comprehension test in English Weekly. Theprocess of the research is to analyze the students’ listening ability accordingto their listening scores.Then the main conclusions are drawn as follows:1.there are clear differences between the use of CALL and traditional method in teaching English listening.2.the use of CALL is effective to improve mystudents’ listening scores. The students with better listening ability were betterat using this training related language abilities and using computer. Based onthe results, the author made some pedagogical suggestions on the instructionof the listening with the use of computer. And the writer hoped that thiswould be helpful for English teaching and learning in China.
