Feasibility Study Of Developing Beach Volleyball Teaching In Universities Of Qingdao Area

The development of society has gestated many new forms of sport activities, to which more and more social values are endowed. Beach volleyball, as one of the most outstanding sports of the21st century, has developed into a new era. Beach volleball, introduced into China in the early1990’s, has been accepted quickly for its artistry, enjoyment and interest. In1994, the first national beach volleyball event was held in China, then as it became the match item of the Olympics in1996, its development had been more and more vigorous. In1997, for the first time China participated in the world beach volleyball championship and has many outstanding achievements during the following years. Chinese women beach volleyball team earned one silver medal and one bronze medal at2008Beijing Olympics, which has become an opportunity to develop this sport, improving the level of competition and popularization.Chinese Volleyball Association has pointed out in "the Layout of the Development of Beach Volleyball2001-2008" that the cooperation with education department, the promotion of beach volleyball for young people and the development in the common universities will have a lot of realistic significance. The intense population of university, the high quality and the strong sport awareness of the university students who after graducation will bring the sport awareness and activities into society and the effective publicity will help to promote beach volleyball effectively. With the methods of literature reviews, questionnaire, expert interview and mathematical statistics, this paper aims to study the current situation of beach volleyball course of some Chinese universities, the characteristics, value, significance and teaching goals of beach volleyball; analysis on the situation and characteristics of beach volleyball in Qingdao and the influential conditions, factors and limitation of its development; and strategic suggestions are given to provide thoeretic basis for the popularization and promotion of beach volleyball in university P.E. teaching. The main finding are:1. the fitness, entertainment, and enjoyment value of beach volleyball have been accepted by most university students.2. the authorities and experts interviewed approve the carrying out of beach volleyball course of university in Qingdao area, and the teachers and students spport and expect beach volleyball course.3. the favourable location, good climate and strong sport atmosphere are the advantageous conditions for the carrying out of beach volleyball course.4. the disadvantageous factors are:university students do not have enough knowledge of beach volleyball because of the lack of publicity, at the same time, there are not enough beach volleyball teachers who have been professionally trained; the teaching materials are not enough; fields and facilities are lacking.5. it is feasible to introduce beach volleyball to the sport course of universitis in Qingdao area if the advantageous factors are reasonably used and the disadvatageous factors are conquered.
