With more and more attention paid to English teaching, the mode of English teaching has shifted from the teacher-centered to the student-centered and people began to pay particular attention to English learning, especially, the learner’s psychological status in English learning. In fact, researchers at home and broad have done a lot of job studying the relationship between the learners’affective factors and their English learning performance. However, the researches focused on Chinese English learners’psychological status in English learning are rare, especially for Chinese junior high students. In fact, the junior high school students are at the very beginning stage of English learning, so English learning is very important for them. At the same time, it is urgent for English teachers to know the junior high school students’psychological status in English learning, especially the students who are learning English under the high-pressure condition, which is very common in our society. On account of these, the writer decided to conduct a survey on the junior high school students’psychological status in English learning under a high-pressure learning condition. The research questions are:(1) What is the general psychological status of junior high school students in English learning?(2) Are there any differences between boys’and girls’psychological status? If so, what are the differences?(3) What is the relationship between the students’psychological status and their English learning achievements?(4) What are the major affective factors that influence the students’English learning achievements?With a view to find the ways to improve our teaching methods and skills and help the junior middle school students enhance their English learning, the researcher carries out this survey. This thesis employed a questionnaire to finish the survey in a private junior middle school, in which the learning atmosphere is rather tense for the students. After the survey, the author analyzes the data with the help of the software SPSS17.0and finds that under a high-pressure learning condition: (1) The general psychological status of junior middle school students in English learning is normal.(2) There are obvious differences between boys’ and girls’ psychological status in English learning and girls possess higher level of psychological status than boys.(3) Psychological status has significant correlations with students’ English learning achievements and students with better English learning achievements have better psychological status in English learning.(4) The relationships with teachers and classmates, the performance in English class, the attitudes toward difficulties in English learning and the confidence have positive correlations with students’ English learning achievements.According to the results of the survey, the author tries to analyze the results and put forward some suggestions to English teaching-to build a harmonious English class atmosphere for the students, to help the students develop self-confidence and to treat different students with different methods.
