John Dewey is a famous pragmatist philosopher and educator in America."Art as experience" is a new proposition of Dewey’s theory."Art as experience" is the core of Dewey’s esthetics thought, is also the further development of his philosophical and educational thought. Through the discussion about "art as experience", John Dewey show the world a new concept of Art--Art and life are inseparable; and the formation of a new concept of Art Education--education and art also inseparable. The thought "art is experience" give a strong reference meaning on the current art education healthy development in China, through Dewey’s "experience" perspective, we can discuss the children’s art education situation in China more in-depth, we can further explore the development direction of children’s art education.The thought of "art as experience" conceived in the American society. It’s a rapid transition period. Great changes of the social life make people’s spiritual life in a variety of issues:alienation of life, alienation of education, and alienation of art. In this background, Dewey tried to seek the continuity. Dewey opposed the art and life apart, against the separation of education and society."Art as experience" benefit both from the Native American thought, and also suffered from Eurasia collision of philosophy. From the American pragmatism philosophy to continental Europe’s Darwin thought and Hagel’s logic, which are three philosophical basis of Dewey’s idea to mature; William James’s functional psychology lays the psychological foundation of Dewey "art as experience" thought; At the same time, John Dewey have explored the essence of education and have taken art education into Chicago experimental school practice. It is the exploration in education."Art as experience" mainly includes three aspects:the first level is the transformation of the "experience", which in order to reveal the new view of experience. Dewey insisted the consistency of experience and life; Discuss the development experience in art is the second level, which talk about the daily experience how to become "an experience" and "aesthetic experience"; The last level reveals the basic characteristics of a perfect experience of art, which means the unity about the method and the purpose; the unity of art and aesthetic; the unity of emotion and reason. The three aspects reveal Dewey’s determination to transform the view of experience and reconstruct people’s living concept.
