The researcher applied English movie clips in developing senior high schoolstudents’ English listening ability. It is aimed at changing the traditional listening abilityteaching approach by taking full advantage of multimedia equipment to provide variousand interesting listening teaching activities to help students build learning interest andstimulate students’ active participation. The ultimate goal is developing senior high schoolstudents’ English listening ability.In order to exam the practical effect of this new teaching mode, the researcher maderelative experiment. Researcher chose two Senior I classes, in which students had similarlistening ability, to do the experiment from Oct.2012to Nov.2012. It lasted for about6weeks. One class was regarded as the control group. In this group, students study in thetraditional way: listening to the audio materials of the movie clips without visualinformation, doing the exercises practicing (same with the experiment group) andchecking answers. The other class was regarded as the experimental group. In this group,students research by watching movie clips with both visual and verbal annotations. Oncethey finish watching the clips twice, teacher would give immediate vocabulary andcomprehension posttest to collect the relative data of students’ comprehension andvocabulary acquisition. The vocabulary test made up of15keywords. Students in eachgroup were asked to do a pretest and a posttest at the beginning and the end of theexperiment. Judging from the statistic results of the two groups, they both made certainprogress. However, Judging from the subsequent interview and questionnaire, theresearcher found that students of the experimental group showed more interesting in thisnew listening teaching method. By afterthought of the experiment, the re6searcher putforward the limitation and solutions of this research. At the same time, the researcher gavesuggestions for further research and optimal instructional design method, which would bevaluable reference for other researchers and English teachers...
