Essay Reading Comprehension plays an important role in College EntranceExamination, but the examinees’ situation of doing exercise is generally poor, Thereason is mainly the teacher teach students rote learning method in solving problems,failed to teach students how to get to the answer. And due to the problem-solvingstrategies in a state of chaos, the students lack of a unified standard of the answer tosolve problems. Since relevance theory appeared. The reading comprehensions startfrom a new angle to study and develop. In1986, Sperber and Wilson in his book“relevance:communication and cognition” put forward the “Relevance theory”, itinherit and develop many linguistics theory in the criticism, it’s a theory of cognitivepragmatics from the perspectives of cognitive to study the language communication.With the development and mature of relevance theory, it has been widely used intranslation, foreign language teaching, discourse linguistics, psychology and secondlanguage teaching and Chinese teaching and so on.Relevance theory has a strongexplanatory power in discourse reading comprehension, allows us to more fullyunderstand the essence of reading comprehension. Because reading comprehension isalso a kind of communication; Reading comprehension is also a Ostensive-inferenceprocess of reasoning; Do reading comprehension is to find the best words thatassociated to answer questions.In this paper, the prolegomenon mainly put forward problem, summarized theresearch status, then illustrates the research content and objects, research objects andmethods, research significance. The first chapter mainly introduces the basic views ofrelevance theory, the present research status of the contemporary Chinese reading testquestions in EEC, and the obstacle that exist in the process of problem solving, theemphasis is the feasibility analysis of the relevance theory to solve the contemporaryChinese reading test questions in EEC. The second chapter is the key research section;this paper discusses the concrete application of the relevance theory to answer themodern Chinese reading test questions in the Chinese college entrance examination.According to the requirement of the examination outline, the author divided the testquestions of college entrance examination into four categories: understanding,analysis and synthesis, appreciation and evaluation, comprehension exploration.Directly by the test questions of college entrance examination as the breakthroughpoint, using the ostensive-inferential model of relevance theory analyze the college entrance examination questions step by step, give special interpretation to differentability levels of college entrance examination test questions. Concluding remarks putforward the Suggestions to answer the essay reading comprehension test questions forstudent, and points out that this study needs to study deeply and develop further.
