Chunk was brought forward the earliest by Becker in1975. Although chunk was conducted into research somewhat late in China, certain achievements both in theory and practice have already been made. More and more researchers and teaching staff have been studying chunk in different ways and using the theory of chunk to teach in classroom English teaching. So far, studies on how to apply the theory into classroom teaching mainly concentrate on written and spoken English. There are a few studies about possible connection between chunk and reading or listening. And these studies only focus on how to use the theory of chunk to cultivate a certain skill of learners’ listening, speaking, reading or writing. And quite few studies are about the real situation of applying chunk to daily classroom teaching in senior middle school. So this essay emphatically involves in these: How have teachers been teaching by the method of chunk? Which aspects of it have they been applying well? What about the aspects that they still haven’t applied correctly? And what are the main problems while they are using this method and what are their possible causes? How should they solve the major problems?This research has utilized the literature methodology, the questionnaires, the methods of classroom inspection and the reflections of teaching cases to have an investigation and analysis of the chunk teaching in Hui’an Senior Middle School, Fujian. And the results show that currently most senior middle school teachers have realized the importance of chunk teaching, but they do little with cultivation of students’culture awareness, varieties of classroom chunk exercises and how to encourage students to learn more chunks through different resources out of classroom. Then according to what has been found, some possible measures and practical ways have been put forward. Meanwhile, a chunk teaching practice has been carried out in Class3, Senior Grade2, Hui’an Senior High School, Fujian to test the effectiveness. Finally the conclusion is drawn as follows:it is good for sharpening students’ English overall capacity to cultivate students’chunk awareness and use clear teaching ways of chunk in English classroom teaching.
