With the growing development of economy and international communication, English as an international language is becoming increasingly important. In this background, kindergarten English teaching has been gradually emphasized and explored as an emerging and hot topic in the field of early childhood education. However, the practice of kindergarten English teaching in China lacks of mature theoretical guidance.As a trend of thought on language education developed in the United States in the middle20th century, whole language based on a principle of wholeness and connectedness examines the nature of language and language learning, and with changing the current state of language education featuring skill cultivation as the aim, it raises the basic notion on organizing language curriculum and instruction implementation.This thesis is based on the study of the concept of whole language, and the analysis of the observation of current kindergarten English teaching in present situation, which aims to make constructive suggestions for kindergarten English teaching in China.The thesis consists of five parts:The first part mainly includes the question put forward, related concepts, the literature review and the ways of thinking and methods. The second part gives the overview of the development of whole language philosophy from political education and social life in the United States.The third part introduces the characteristics of whole language on kindergarten English teaching.The forth part represents the kindergarten English teaching design under the whole language philosophy.The fifth part is conclusion and proposal. On the basis of analysis of kindergarten English teaching question origin, classroom observation and case analysis, some suggestions of improving kindergarten English teaching has been put forward in this part.
