| The main purposes of this thesis are to know about the present situation of English reading in middleschool and to find out the main problems. The author makes a research of English reading in Xiping No.2middle school then puts forward some advice of English reading in middle school according to the analysisof the research results.The results show that the traditional English teaching method has some disadvantages, The teachersonly treat the reading practice as a means of consolidating and acquiring knowledge, instead of developingthe students’ reading skills and reading method. Thus, most of the teachers only pay attention to key words,grammar points and sentence structure, while students try to remember them passively, and this course nowonly pays quite a little of attention to the reading materials surface meaning, The reading materials lack inin-depth analysis. Paying little attention to the need of developing students’ background knowledge and toimprove their skills to deal with problems, few students can get useful instruction from English reading.This author adopts two methods--the classroom observation and questionnaire for the investigation.First, In order to learn the present situation of English reading in middle school in English class and findout the existing problems, the author observes30English classes in Xiping No.2middle school. Second, Inorder to know about teachers and students’ standpoints for English reading, the author investigates8teachers and122students with questionnaires. Last, the author analyzes the data of research and putsforward some advice of English reading in middle school.From the results of the investigation, the author comes up with a way to this problem byexperimenting. In this paper, the author proves the necessity and feasibility of integrative approach inteaching English reading in middle school. The integrative approach stresses discourse, integrity, anddevelops the students’ reading skills and ability, just to make the students have the purpose offorecasting,thinking and getting information in the process of reading English. And the information iscarried in analyzing, reasoning and judging to accurately understand the article content and thought, withthe purpose of raising students’ reading speed, improving their reading skills. |
