Since the New National Criterion for English Course (Department of Education,2003) clearly advocates applying Task Based Language Teaching approach in middleschools, more and more researchers and teachers have been making effort toinvestigate the effectiveness and the feasibility of the applications of it. However,researches on the application of Task Based Language Teaching approach in middleschools of Chinese minority areas are dramatically insufficient. Therefore, the studyfocuses on the problem of the utilization of TBLT in Mongolian middle schools inQinghai Province.Nowadays, with the flying development of technology, the demands of peoplewho master English well are needed by society much. English reading is the mostfrequent activity in the application of English language and also the most importantway for students to get information, in addition, it is one of the most effectiveapproaches to improve students’ English standard. Hence, it is necessary toinvestigate the significant of the effectiveness of TBLT in Mongolian Englishreading.TBLT transformed traditional teacher-centered classroom teaching tostudent-centered one and give emphasis on the application of language from thefocus on language structure. During the process of “learning by doing”, studentswith higher language proficiency is the prerequisite to complete a series of tasks.Therefore, the thesis holds a hypothesis that the effectiveness of TBLT in Mongolianstudents’ English reading practice is not very significant, but the influence on theinterests and motivation of Mongolian students towards English reading is verystrong.To prove the hypothesis of the thesis, this research carried out task-basedreading experiment in De Lingha Mongolian Middle School. The research subjectsare experimental class and controlled class each with22Mongolian senior onestudents. TBLT and traditional teaching method were adopted in experimental groupand controlled group respectively. Data was collected from two sources: test papers &questionnaires, and analyzed with the help of statistical software SPSS.The main findings of the paper further prove the hypothesis of the research.After analyzing the data result, the paper concludes that the Effectiveness of TBLTin Mongolian students’ English reading performance is not very significant but theEffectiveness on Mongolian students’ English reading interest, feeling andmotivation is very significant. In addition, the paper also prove that the NativeLanguage Instruction assist Mongolian students’ English reading comprehension.The present study includes five chapters. Chapter One focuses on thebackground introduction of the Mongolian students’ English learning condition andputs forward the significant of the study. Chapter Two presents the literature reviewabout Task-based Language Teaching and the English reading models to support thethesis. Chapter Three involves the methodology of the thesis including data sourcesand the experimental procedure of the study. Chapter Four analyzes the data andgives a detailed reason of each item. Chapter Five concludes the main findings of thethesis and also states its implications and limitations.
