With the development of "New Curriculum Standards for High School English Course" all over China, it is necessary for high school English teachers to master and use the Task-based Language Teaching Approach. Because "New Curriculum Standards for High School English Course" promulgated by the Ministry of Education of China vigorously promotes the Task-based Language Teaching Approach and considers it as a major approach to advance its primary and secondary school English teaching reform in China. English teaching in senior high school in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region carries out "New Curriculum Standards for High School English Course" from2009and uses new textbooks. This new set of textbooks used by senior high school students are edited and published by the people’s Education Publishing House. Their main characteristics are that they use each unit as its core and use structures and functional items as its clue to organize listening, speaking, reading and writing activities. Teachers can achieve the teaching aims through task-based activities and the completion of the project.The teaching of English reading, especially in senior high school is very important to both teachers and students. However, the current situations of English reading teaching in senior high schools can’t adapt to the needs of economic and social development. The current situations and the requirements of the new curriculum standards have a large disparity. The Task-based Language leaching Approach has popularized and there are three procedures about reading teaching:pre-reading, while reading and post-reading. Most of English teachers can’t have a comprehensive understanding of the "task", and pay little attention to task design of reading.The writer made this empirical research into the teaching of high school English reading research using TBIT to test the hypothesis:the TBLT approach is more conductive than the traditional teaching method to improving students reading achievements:compared with the traditional teaching method, the TBLT method can help students develop more effective reading learning strategies. The aim is to study the feasibility and effectiveness of reading in high school using TBLT and provide some enlightenment of theory and practice while helping students to master effective reading methods to improve their reading achievements.This thesis consists of five parts:Chapter One introduces the background and significance of this research. Chapter Two is focus on the related notion of the Task-based Language Teaching, the theories and the current situations of research in the Task-based Language Teaching and the definition of task, the components of task and the principles of task design and types of task. Chapter Three mainly discusses the actual application of task design in reading class in senior high school and designs tasks in pre-reading, while-reading and post-reading. Chapter Four analyzes the data obtained from the experiment. Chapter Five mainly concludes findings. suggestions and conclusion. It concludes the inspiration of this research in English reading teaching in senior school and shortages of this research and some suggestions.
