The bilingual teaching of ethnic language and Chinese is an important part ofethnic minority education in our country, which plays an important role and hassignificant meaning not only to promote economic and social development in ethnicminority areas but also to maintain national unity. Tibet Autonomous Reign is located inthe southwest of China, with unique natural environment, underdeveloped politics,economic and education, which is the most particular ethnic minority autonomous reignin China. Under this circumstance, Tibetan-Chinese bilingual teaching has importantmeaning to cultivate the talent who is proficient in both Tibetan and Chinese, enhancethe communication between Tibetan and Han, and also promote socioeconomicdevelopment in Tibetan region. However, the research of bilingual teaching started late,still a very weak point, and the practice of bilingual teaching lack of systematictheoretical directions, so the effect of bilingual teaching need to be improved. Becauseof the special characteristic and significant culture difference of Tibet AutonomousReign, there is insufficient relevant research on this subject.On the basic of reviewing research literatures and compilation of questionnaire ofTibetan-Chinese bilingual teaching, this paper investigated and analyzed currentsituation of Tibetan-Chinese bilingual teaching in Lhasa City from six aspects, thepolicies of Tibetan-Chinese bilingual teaching, the modes of teaching, the constructionof teaching materials, the teaching stuff, the classroom teaching and students’ bilinguallearning.It was found that after sixty years hard work, Tibetan-Chinese bilingual teachingovercame series difficulties, such as late starting, low starting, harsh conditions, andmade great achievements. First of all, the policy system of Tibetan-Chinese bilingualteaching has been established and works well. Secondly, the mode of Tibetan-Chinesebilingual teaching has been completed gradually. Thirdly, the construction of teachingmaterials of Tibetan-Chinese bilingual teaching has achieved remarkable results. Inaddition to this, the teaching stuff of Tibetan-Chinese bilingual teaching has beensteadily increased, with quality continuously improved. Last but not least, Tibetanstudents work well in both Tibetan and Chinese.However, there are still many problems in Tibetan-Chinese bilingual teaching in Lhasa City, and even some problems are quite prominent. To begin with,Tibetan-Chinese bilingual teaching has significant difference between urban and ruralareas. Another problem is that the mode of Tibetan-Chinese bilingual teaching stillneeds to be improved. In addition to this, there is a serious shortage of outside readingand teaching materials of Tibetan language. Also, the ethnic composition of teachingstuff needs to be improved. It is also true that the tendency of one-sided emphasized onChinese language teaching is quite obviously. Faced with these problems, this paperpresents corresponding countermeasures and suggestions for education authorityreference.
