With the implementation of new curriculum reform,"statistics and probability"for first time into one of the four learning areas of mathematics curriculum of compulsory education.Therefore, the "statistics and probability" research will gradually cause the attention of people. But,at present domestic related research mainly focus on probability teaching, for probability cognitive level research very little, but only really understand the students’cognitive characteristics, know how the students understand probability knowledge, to be effective on probability teaching and reasonable writing teaching materials.Based on the understanding of the concept of probability as the carrier, take random phenomenon of recognition and interpretation possibility and probability of classical definition and probability statistics is defined as the breakthrough point "junior high school students’understanding of the concept of probability", concrete research two problem:(1)what level of current junior middle school students to understand the concept of probability in?(2) What problem are still there the junior middle school students in probability concept to understand?This research development train of thought is:first of all, choose to research. Specific as follows, consulting a large number of the field of literature, to choose the most interesting topic, and then according to the topic with the purpose of literature research, understand the situation, determine the research point; Secondly, according to the four point prepare relevant questionnaire, and please specialist and a line the guidance of teachers, and questionnaire to test, modification, Again, choose schools and classes to questionnaire survey, and according to the survey selection interview students; Finally, a quantitative method and qualitative method to collect data to carry on the analysis. Quantitative method is mainly for the students to the result of questionnaire survey on coding, and input to the computer database, using Spssl3.0software and Excel software for statistical analysis;Qualitative method is mainly to the students’written answer reason and the interview through the case analysis, and then get some enlightenment.Through the research mainly draw the following conclusion:1. The students in the understanding of the concept of probability due to the U level, M level, R level, seven year students mainly from U level and M level, ninth grade students major in M level and R level. And the same grade, age stage girls understanding level obviously higher than that of male students.2. Junior middle school students mainly have three error concept:"possibility to quantify or predict" is in the junior middle school students use frequency is highest buy also the most stubborn; Secondly,"the subjective judgment "is in each grade a higher frequency error probability, and with the rise of grade lower. Again,"predicted results method" is used in the junior middle school students more frequent a wrong concept. In addition to error concept, language ability is weak to the main reason for the error.
