China Ministry of Education issued "the National English CurriculumStandards" in2003. It put forward the demand of opening English optional course inhigh school. The Course of English Songs was one of optional course. English Songsare rich in cultural connotation, humanistic spirit and aesthetic value. Both in Chinaand abroad, it proved that English Songs is one of the effective way of learning alanguage.This paper focused on the optional course of English Songs in Jiangyin MiddleSchool, and tried to finger out the way to improve the curriculum by surveying andanalyzing, to make the course of English Songs get further promotion. This paperadopted questionnaire investigation method, interview investigation method,observation method, etc. The participants were the students and the teacher of thecourse of English Songs. The result indicated that the students increased the languageknowledge and improved the interest in learning. Also, there were some problems, forexample, the songs were too old, the teaching method needed to improve. In the lastpart, on the basis of the investigation, it gave some suggestions:(1) The school shouldincrease the class capacity;(2) The school should increase the number of teachers;(3)Teachers should update the English songs in time;(4) Teachers should improveteaching method;(5) Teachers should improve the reliability of students’ evaluation.
