Psychology has been developing for more than one hundred years, andPsychology has achieved rapid development and great progress during the more thanone hundred years, the psychology research has involved many fields of social life,the relationship between psychology and social life is becoming more and moreclose. But the psychological circle has done a quite few of researches about theimage of psychology itself so far. By retrieving the existing literature, we found thatthe existing researches about the image of psychology itself were mainly done by thewestern psychological circles especial the American psychologists. The researchesabout the image of psychology are very few in china because that the psychologystarted late. In order to research the image of psychology in china, the author doesthe research mainly from the following four parts:On the first part, exploring the internal structure of image of the psychology andforming a questionnaire with good reliability and validity. The author collected alarge number of valuable items on the base of analyzing the existing researches anddoing the interviews and open-ended questionnaires on the University students notmajoring in psychology, and found that the image of psychology contains fivedimensions by means of the exploratory factor analysis many times: the function ofpsychology, the attitude toward psychology, the importance of psychology, thecharacteristics of psychology and the status of development of psychology, andformed the questionnaire of the image of psychology. The formed questionnaire hasgood reliability and validity by the Correlation analysis and confirmatory factoranalysis, and it can be the effective tool of measuring the image of psychology.On the second part, the author investigated the image of psychology in the mindof University students not majoring psychology by using the formed questionnaire.The image of psychology obtained by survey is the image of psychology in the mindof University students on the aspect of cognition and rationality. The results ofsurvey showed that the variables of gender, grade, profession, the seat of family, the economic conditions of family, and the experiences of contacting with thepsychology are all significantly different on the image of psychology in the mind ofthe undergraduates not majoring in psychology.On the third part, the author researched the experience on attitude towardpsychology in the mind of University students not majoring psychology by using theexperimental paradigm of SC—IAT(single category implicit association test). Theexperience on attitude is the image of psychology on the aspect of mood andemotion. The author investigated the influence of the gender and the score of rationalimage of psychology toward the University students’ experience on attitude. Theresults showed that the main effect of gender was significant; the main effect of thescore of rational image of psychology was significant; both variables’ interactioneffect was significant. The results of the analysis of simple effect showed that themain effect of score was significant while the participants were female, it means theexperience on attitude of the University students with high score was more positivethan the experience on attitude of the University students with low score, but themain effect of score was not significant while the participants were male, it meansthe difference of the experience on attitude between the University students withhigh score and the University students with low score was not significant.On the fourth part, the author investigated the relationship between the image ofpsychology in the mind of University students not majoring in psychology and theattitude toward seeking professional psychological help on the two aspects ofrationality and emotion. The results of correlation analysis and regression analysisshowed that the predictive effect was significant of the rational image and theemotional image of psychology in the mind of the University students not majoringin psychology toward the attitude of them toward seeking the professionalpsychological help.
