Zhang Yaoxiang's Research On Educational Psychology

As the first president of the Chinese Psychological Association,Zhang Yao-xiang had served as the editor of Psychology,which was the first journal of psychology in China even in Asia.He also had built the Beijing Higher Normal School Psychology Laboratory and presided over the first Chinese public opinion poll.All his life was devoted to the teaching and research work of psychology.And he had made an indelible contribution to the establishment,development and popularization of Chinese psychological science.He has done a lot of work on the exploration of ancient Chinese psychology and the introduction of Western Psychology.He had always advocated the "the sinicization of foreign knowledge",which meant the combination of the western advanced scientific knowledge and the ancient Chinese culture,and focused on the popularization and application of Psychology.His works such as The First Memory of Life,The Definition and Scope of Wisdom,The Anthology of Psychology,The Lecture of Psychology and so on refer to General Psychology,Developmental Psychology,Psychological Measurement,Abnormal Psychology and the History of Psychology.In the field of educational psychology,he mainly discusses the contents of personality education,learning psychology,subject psychology,the psychology of student,the psychology of teacher,and so on.Zhang Yao-xiang made full of criticism and inheritance of ancient Chinese personality education thought and had done more research on the "personality characteristics",“the content and principle of personality education”,“personality education method” etc.In the field of learning psychology,Zhang Yao-xiang made research mainly from “the physiological basis of learning”,“the motivation of learning”,“the ability of learning” “learning process”,“the difference and reasons of learning efficiency in different stages of the learning process”.His study of subject psychology mainly concentrated in “the measurement of wisdom”,“literacy test”,“the new methods of the exam” and so on.He also studied the psychology of student from the aspects of “the students' individual differences” and “students' mental health”.In addition,Zhang Yao-xiang also discussed the psychology of teacher from the aspects of “teachers' necessary qualities” and “the way to protect the teacher's occupation”.Zhang Yao-xiang's Thought on educational psychology is still of great significance to the current education and teaching work and very worth studying and applying.
