The accuracy of time perception is one of the special qualities of the athletes.Whether it is close or open sports, correct timing is a key factor in the games. As acompetitive sport, Fencing has a long history. Sportsmen have to apply their skills andtactics to make decisions quickly and effectively basing on the changes in thesituation. Because of the uncertain external information, there is a complicatedpsychological process in the athletes.In this paper, expert-novice paradigm was used.19epee athletes and16normaluniversity students were asked to decide the attack timing in sport scenarios. Eyemovement recording system and event-related recording technology were combinedto study their visual search features and neural mechanism. The purpose of theresearch is to explore epee athletes’ expert advantages, and provide a usefultheoretical basis for training.Independent sample test results of athletes’ eye movement indexes of differentgender showed: average fixation time had a gender main effect; female athletes have arepeated comparison strategy, and male athletes focus on opponents’ movement; maleathletes payed more attention on rivals’ lower limbs. Two-factor ANOVA analysisresults suggested: timing decision not only had a main effect in groups but also ingender; athletes could judge the attack timing more correctly; there is a bilateralmatching mode in athletes’ information processing; athletes have an expert advantagein execution; P3component had a significant difference.Conclusion:1) Epee athletes of different gender have different visual search features.Female’s repeated comparison strategy and Male’s focusing on rivals strategy.2) Male epee athletes have a special interest area: opponents’ lower limbs.3) In sport scenarios, epee athletes of high level can tell the attack timingcorrectly.4) High level epee athletes have a bilateral matching mode in informationprocessing.5) Epee athletes of high level analyze the obtained information deeply.
