With the advent of the information age and the global economy, English has become increasinglyimportant. English is the dominant carrier of information and the most widely spoken language in the world.Many countries have made English a cornerstone of quality education when developing strategies for basiceducation. As the main method of the language input, reading plays an important role among the four skills:listening, reading, speaking and writing. It is the most basic way to obtain language..So not only in theoriesbut also in practice, reading is always the main focus of the linguists. Of course, reading is one of the maincontents of English Teaching in junior middle school. The New English Curriculum Standards emphasizesthat we should pay special attention to students’ reading abilities. However, now the overall situation of ourstudents’ English reading ability, especially those students’ in rural junior middle school, is not optimistic.And also about the related reading strategies and skills, they just know a little.This thesis based on the related reading theories and strategies, aims to investigate the present profileof strategy knowledge in reading and reading strategy use in Guan chang No.1junior middle school and theeffect of reading strategies training for students.The results show that the current situation of reading strategy in the Guan chang No.1junior middleschool is worrying. In the process of English teaching, as a leader, the teacher seldom paid enough attentionto the reading strategy training. The students did not have much time and chance to do some readingstrategy training in the whole process of learning. By the four month experiment, the readingcomprehension scores in the experimental class are much better than that in the control class. Both teachersand students think that reading strategy plays an important role in improving reading ability and readingscores. |
