At present, the relative discussions about authenticity mainly concentrate on whetherteacher uses authentic materials in class, especially in the listening materials. But in fact thetopics on authenticity in English teaching are far from confining to the teaching materials;Besides, most current studies are based on theories’ discussion, lacking empirical studies;What’s more among these studies about authenticity, very few attempts centralized onelementary and middle schools, especially on the study of the combination of TBLT andauthenticity.This paper attempts to explore the teaching effects in middle school after combining Vanlier’s pragmatic authenticity with task-based language teaching (TBLT). The author makes anempirical research on two classes in Grade8, in No.13middle school in Yantai City,Shangdong Province. The duration of this research is one semester. During the research, theauthor chooses two classes totally80students as subjects, one class is the controlled group(CG); the other is the experimental group (EG). In the process of this research, the traditionalteaching method is still kept in CG, while the author adopted Van lier’s pragmatic authenticityinto task-based language teaching to EG. Questionnaire, experiment and interview are used inthis research and finally the author collects groups of reliable data. At last with the help ofSPSS software, the author analyzes data quantitatively and qualitatively and finds that: thisnew teaching method does create an obvious teaching effect on students after applying Vanlier’s pragmatic authenticity into TBLT.
