A Study On Internationalisation Of Makerere University

Since1980s, the growing of globalization has propelled the areas of political, economy, society, culture, so is the higher education. Knowledge society, English language, ICTS and market mobility have affected the higher education, which bring unrivalled opportunity and severe challenge. It is very important for higher education to face the challenge, so the internationalization road is an inevitable choice to effects that they may face. Makerere University which is the most famous university in Uganda has developed ninety years; the internationalization remains a work in progress and always makes a fuller use of their comparative advantage, which through international and regional cooperation. This has the typical model and demonstration in the vast majority of developing countries, especially in Africa countries. These analyses which expect to have lessons for developing countries and strengthen the cooperation and communication of higher education between countries.Subject investigated of the internationalization of Makerere University is using documentary method, interviewing method, factor analysis method, From that, the discussion is about the internationalization of current situation, the internationalization of features and internationalization of challenges.The result indicates that the process of internationalization is zigzagging developing, the notable achievement which reflects the management concept, people mobility, curriculum provision, cooperation and exchange, the cooperation and regional development are the internationalization of characteristic of Makerere University. But during the development of internationalization, Makerere University has many problems, which are lack of funds, the brain drain and so on. It is likewise in many developing countries.Based on the above analysis, the thinking is about the internationalization, localization and cooperation.
