The Study On International Cooperation Of Makerere University’s Science Research Capacity Building

Uganda is a low-income country, and it is also one of the least developed countries in the world. But according to the Journals and Country Rankings of SCImago, and the rankings of African universities and Higher Education Institutions from Journal Consortium, the research capacity ofMakerere University in Uganda has been among the best universities in Africa, which has formed a stark contrast with the level of economic development of its country. So why does Makerere University achieve such good success in the building of research capacity? Recalled the past nearly two decades of the development history of Makerere University, it is clear to see that the extensive and effective international cooperation in science research play a vital role in the building of its research capacity.This study is divided into six parts.The exordium is consist of the research objectives, research significance, research methods, and literature reviews.The first part analyzes the background of international cooperation in the research capacity building of Makerere University, which is mainly studied from the three levels:the international level, the national level and the institutional level.The second part mainly analyzes the international cooperation in science research capacity building of Makerere University, which includes the cooperation history, cooperation mode, cooperation content, and cooperation finance. These four aspects demonstrate the extensiveness of its international cooperation.The third part selects a typical case to analyze the effectiveness of international cooperation in the research capacity building of Makerere University. The case is the research cooperation between Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency and Makerere University.The fourth part summarizes the results of the international cooperation in science research building of Makerere University, and analyzes the successful experience of international research cooperation.The last part is the conclusion. By analyzing the experience of Makerere University which enhances its research capacity building by international cooperation, this paper summarizes the enlightenment that the universities of low-income countries can get from Makerere University.
