Learner autonomy is a kind of ability of monitoring one’s own learning process. Learner autonomy is one kind of goals in language teaching and learning. Learner autonomy is a necessity for modern education and a guarantee for students’ abilities development. This kind of ability will be realized with the use of the metacognitive strategies. Metacognition also provides the theoretical basis for learner autonomy. Although listening is particularly important in daily communication, many students1English listening comprehension abilities are poor in some middle schools. The most important reason is that these students lack self-planning, self-monitoring and self-evaluating. That is to say, they lack enough learning strategies, especially metacognitive strategy. So it is necessary to guide and train students in the metacognitive strategies to develop their’ autonomous learning ability and improve their listemng learning efficiency. What’s more, helping students to form good study habit and effective learning strategies are one of the important tasks of the new English curriculum. At present, there are some researches on metacognitive strategies training to improve students’ listening comprehension ability but it has not been paid attention by some scholars and the researches on students of senior high schools are not enough. The author utilized the favorable conditions in the English teaching and tried to integrate the metacognitive strategies with English listening teaching in senior high school to guide the students to enhance their consciousness of metacognitive strategies in listening and motivate them to actively use metacognitive strategies so as to improve their listening comprehension and the ability of autonomous learning.
