Metacognitive strategies are involved planning, monitoring, and evaluating strategies can promote successful language learning to a better level. According to O’Malley&Chamot,Metacognitive strategies are higher-order executive skills of all the learning strategies.English has become the focus of the school teaching, though students can explain grammar well, they cannot talk to foreigners, especially the rural school students.According to the experiment, one of the reasons is the language environment. Another reason is, they are lack of the metacognitive awareness. However, the systematic and embedded training of Metacognitive strategies in English speaking is quite deficient. So this paper aimed to integrate Metacognitive strategies to middle school speaking teaching to know that if the training can make students’ speaking ability better.This is a survey of the application of Metacognitive strategies to middle school English Speaking. The subjects will receive Metacognitive Strategy Instruction in English speaking besides the routine English instruction. The instruments are metacognitive strategy questionnaire, speaking test and interview in this research. Two major questions will be answered in this study: First, the general of rural middle school students of applications of Metacognitive strategies to English speaking? Second, can Metacognitive Strategy Instruction in English speaking effectively improve their English speaking proficiency? The results indicate that there is positive correlation between the metacognitive strategy use and English speaking proficiency through correlation analysis. Junior middle school students employ metacognitive strategy in their English speaking though their application level is low and unsystematic. That is to say, junior middle school students’ overall level of metacognitive strategy use in English speaking is low, which means that metacognitive strategies in English speaking is not integrated into English learning. Students has little related knowledge of metacognitive strategies, therefore they aren’t able to use metacognitive strategies to instruct their English speaking and learning.To help students make their learning ability and their speaking performance better,it is urgent and significant to integrate strategies training especially metacognitive strategies training with English teaching. This paper suggests that Metacognitive strategies instruction, can integrate with other strategies to improve their English ability.
