University is gathered higher learning place, is the essential attribute ofuniversity academic. Therefore, academic management should be in accordance with itsacademic attributes, the decision of academic activities and academic affairs should bethrough the free researching standards to achieve consensus. Pay attention to and giveplay to the teacher’s academic power, to reveal a university academic characteristics.Academic power and administrative power is a serious imbalance in China’suniversities, teachers as the principal of academic authority did not play its due role inthe university. But the academic power of university teachers in the United States, itadherence to the traditional idea of the university of university autonomy, academicfreedom, and adhere to the Academic Affairs decided by scholars. This not onlyhighlights the good features of the University’s academic organization also adapted tothe requirements of social development for the modern university.Academic power of the private university teachers in the United States as thestarting point, using historical research, literature, comparative study systeminvestigated the development and characteristics of the academic power of the AmericanCollege Teachers. And academic powers the other hand on our university teachers,Coming up with Suggestions and opinions for China’s national conditions about theacademic management reform of higher education in China. The paper is divided intofour parts.From a historical perspective, the second part of the carding a private universityinternal teachers academic power development, teachers’ academic power from weak tostrong, fully proved the inevitability of the historical development, is the requirementsof the university internal objective law.The second part of the analysis of the operational mechanism of the privateuniversity internal academic power. including the characteristics of academic power,the influence of internal and external institutional environment, the source of its power, as well as the relationship between academic and administrative authority. This alsoallows us to have a clear understanding of our teachers’ academic power.The third part through comparing with public universities and the foreignuniversities, summed up the characteristics and estimate of academic power within theUnited States private universities.The fourth part analyzes situation of the faculty participation in the academicgovernance in the university of China, and provides some suggestions, according to ourspecific national conditions.
