| The Length Approach is a new kind of writing teaching method proposed by Wang Churning. Developed from Swain’s comprehensible output theory, it proves that comprehensible output theory has a great significance to the second language teaching and learning in China. It’s a new efficient way for writing-teaching. In China, students practice listening and reading a lot, but they don’t have enough proper language output. The Length Approach emphasizes the language output by writing. It increases students’ confidence by writing as well as improves their writing skills.In order to find an efficient writing-teaching method for junior school students in rural areas, the study investigates the feasibility and validity of the Length Apporach in promoting English writing at junior high school level. The subjects of the experiment are88students from2classes of Grade7from Huangpu Middle School of Zhongshan, Guangdong Province.2group pretest-posttest method,2tests and2questionaires are adopted. The author also conducts the SPSS16.0to analyze all the data collected from the tests and questionaires. According to the results, students in the experiment group make greater progress in writing after the4-month experiment. By comparing the results of the questionaires, the author found that students have changed their attitudes towards Length Approach and their confidence has improved at the same time.The thesis includes3chacters. An introduction is about the whole thesis, including the theoretical basis and main contents of Length Approach. Chacter1is the present situation of writing teaching and the standard of the New Curriculum. Chacter2is the research design. Chacter3analyzes the data collected from the experiment. The conclusion of the thesis is also concluded.According to the experiment, the author found that students can develop their English proficiency by producing more language output; teachers are supposed to offer more chances for students to increase language output. Apart from that, teachers should adopt updated teaching methods to foster students’ confidence in writing so as to improve their learning. |
