The new English curriculum standard for senior high school (2011) mentioned that highschool students should learn and master the basic knowledge of English language is to includethe following five contents: pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, function and topic. Englishvocabulary learning is a very important link. Vocabulary teaching methods and Strategies ofEnglish teachers will have a direct impact on students’ English vocabulary learning situation.The author investigate the rural middle school English vocabulary teaching throughquestionnaire survey, classroom observations and interviews, with Fugong Middle school inLonghai City as an example. The main research question is senior high school Englishteachers’ understanding of the English vocabulary teaching; senior high school Englishvocabulary teaching method and teaching strategies; High school students`attitudes andperceptions in English vocabulary teaching and learning.Through analysis of the resulting data, founding that most English teachers in ruralmiddle school students are aware of the importance to master vocabulary, but some teachersdon`t use the cognitive strategies, affective strategies widely on vocabulary teaching;Teachersfail to develop the students`capacity in English vocabulary learning or give students effectiveguidance in English vocabulary learning;meanwhile, teachers don`t pay enough attention tostudents`emotion. Teachers lack of understanding on the specific requirements for thetextbook vocabulary, so they can not well deal with which are the negative words, or whichare the active vocabulary; Teachers don’t know how to judge whether the students master thetaught words, so teachers can`t make scientific distribution of time to vocabulary teaching;There are a large number of vocabulary in textbooks, but vocabulary repetition is very few, soit is not conducive for the students to master. In order to overcome these problems, the authorthinks that the teachers should renew their teaching ideas, to further improve their teachingcontents, improve their teaching and the English professional level.
