India’s rapid ascendance to prominence on the world economic stage is likely to be a major story in the21st century. With India’s development, its domestic bidding market has become a new important market for Chinese contractors. Though the friendly relationship between China and India provides Chinese contractors with a great opportunity, the cultural misunderstanding often occurs due to the difference between the two countries. In fact, the cultural characteristics of Indians are complicated and contradictory. Based on the background of international bidding in India, this thesis analyzes the complicated nature of Indian negotiators and to provide corresponding strategies for Chinese negotiators.A good understanding of the target country’s people and culture becomes part of one’s bidding plan. In order to be successful in business negotiation in India, it is necessary for Chinese negotiators to learn more about the target country’s culture, the negotiators’ characteristics and corresponding strategies. Using the qualitative research method, this thesis aims to outline the complicated and contradictory nature of Indian negotiators and the difficulties that such a reality may pose for Chinese. What’s more, this thesis also explores the possible strategies that the Chinese contractors may employ in their interactions with the Indians.
