As contemporary competitive sports enjoys its robust development, people have acquired a comprehensive understanding about the close relation between athletes’ body composition and their athletic performance. Various ratio of body composition can shed immense impact onto athletes’ performance. Numersous studies on body composition have been done nationally and internationally, but most of them are rudimentary studies concerning public health. Though there are quite a few reaching the area of athlete’s body composition, practical studies about athletes from a specific type of sports are scarce. As a matter of fact, even those are related to athletes from less competitive sports. Hence studies about the body composition of athletes from universities are few. This paper takes basketball athletes from Hunan Normal University(HNU), Central South University(CSU) and Hunan University(HU) as research subjects, consults documents and papers, conducts surveys, collects statistics and uses logics to make a comprehensive comparison between the athletes from these three universities in terms of age, height, weight, body fat ratio, fat-free body weight, WHR index, BMI index, OBD index, intracellular fluid and extracellular fluid, swelling degree, girth, sebum thickness and the proportion of their mucle in specific body part. Certains differences are found in this process and these offer some advices as follow to these universities in their talent-choosing and training process:1. Centers and Forwards in HNU should increase their physical strength and muscle girth while Guards in HNU are adviced to enhance their training in abilities like speed, jumping, endurance and agility.2. Centers and Forwards in HNU has a relatively small size of fast-twitch than those of the athletes in the other two universities while Guards in HNU is on the contrary. Athletes in all three positions show less red muscle than those of the athletes in the other two universities, especially that of Forwards’ Hence, trainings concerning physical strength and aerobic exercises are needed most to facilitate the concentration of the fiber of red muscle, alter muscles’adaptability and expand the coverage of muscle fiber.4. Basketball athletes from HNU have less internal fluind than those of the athletes from the other two universities, which makes them more prone to fatigue.5. All the Forwards and Centers from HNU have less physical strength that that of the athletes from the other two universities but Guards from HNU have more. Hence trainings for Centers and Forwards should be targeted to physical strength while those for Guards aerobic exercise, the promotion of heart and lung performances, the reduction of body fat and the increase of strength of their lower limbs.
