With the development of society and improvement of China’s educationalundertakings, more and more educators realized that the traditional teaching methods can’tmeet the basic need of students’ daily learning activity. Although teachers make full use ofclass time to convey the knowledge, caring little about the response from students. Suchheading methodology, on one hand, can’t help improve students’ scores and competence,on the other hand, plays a negative role for students’ learning attitude and learning methods.Task-based language teaching, as one of the most widely used teaching methods in ChineseEnglish teaching in recent years, regards the students as subjects. Meanwhile, tasks aredesigned by teachers according to curriculum content, and the students are guided tocomplete the task on the basis of steps.On the basis of the facts above, the thesis analyzes the difference between traditionalteaching method and Task-based approach and the characteristics of the Task-basedapproach. And then the author mainly discusses the position and function of Englishreading in high school teaching curricular. The thesis introduces the application andresearch of task-based approach to English reading teaching in senior high school. Thensome reading teaching suggestions are shown for the future teaching activity.The research is aimed at three questions:Can task-based language teaching applied in English reading teaching improvestudents’ intrinsic motivation more than traditional teaching method?Can Task-based language teaching applied in English reading teaching courseimprove students’ English reading proficiency more than traditional teaching method?To what degree is task-based teaching approach recognized among students?The author uses questionnaire, tests and interview to research. According to the resultsof post-test, it is clear that the mean of EC is higher than the mean of CC by2.15.Theresearch shows that the task-based language teaching is more effective than the traditionalmodels used in senior high school English reading teaching. In another word, thetask-based language teaching has some positive implications on the teaching of Englishreading in senior high school.
