China is a unified country with many distinctive ethnic groups. Ever since the inauguration of People’s Republic of China, the government has adhered the principle of national and ethnic solidarity both in policy making and actual practices, reckoning national and ethnic solidarity as the core objective in attaining the ethnic development. Ethnic unity education would play a key role in propelling the ethnic development, consolidating the national unity, improving the cohesiveness. And it is also the defining factor in reviving China. The youth are the future and hope of China, and the backbone of the socialism construction. Hence, the national unity education should focus on the national awareness and national affinity. In this research, the author focuses on the Hezuo X elementary school and analyzes the current situation of implementation of ethnic unity education. The achievements are summarized, the key problems are identified and possible methods or modifications are recommended. It includes:In the introduction, the background, significance, and theories of the research are provided and literary review of hitherto ethnic education research is conducted. The approach of the research is chosen and the key concepts are defined.In the first part, the meaning of ethnic unity education are discussed and analyzed.In the second part, we analyze the current status about the implementation of ethnic unity education in x elementary school. We observe a significant improvement of student awareness. Yet, the research reveals some extent issues. There is lack of scientific approach and lack of accuracy in orientation of educational objective. The teachers and managers of the school are not clear about the meaning of ethnic unity education, and there is a lack of importance attached to such practice; there is the problem of being superficial or monotonous in implementing. The term of validity is limited. Objective is not clear. The hackneyed methods are outdated. It beckons originality.In the third part, we analyze the underlying reasons behind the problems. It includes:There is no systematic training system; The teachers are more focus on edifying the students than cultivating their inner value; The poor development of teaching recourses and the less effective management are also the issues.In the fourth part we propose some optimization options, which includes:Setting up a sound training system to improve the quality of teachers; Giving importance to the ethnic unity education, making sure the sustainable implementation of ethnic unity education; Uphold the leading role of the in-class teaching; Being more creative in enriching the content of ethnic unity education and further development and integration of the curricula.
