With the advancement of globalization of higher education, all countries are exerting to enhance their popularity of their higher education, among the evaluation indexes, papers’ reference rate is a very important one. China is always trying to catch up with the developed counterparts, and great achievements have been gotten, the quantity of our papers has been hit the second level all around the world, just after America, the quality of it also got a great progress, but there is also a big distance between Chinese papers and that of developed ones, especially America, both in quantity and quality. In terms of this, the paper aims to find out the causes of this problem through contrasting core magazines in higher education in China to that of America, analyzing the differences exiting between them as well as the reasons for that, furthermore exploring the problems in Chinese papers, and in the end, proposing some suggestions for it.This paper mainly includes four parts:Part Ⅰ:first, clarify the reasons for the research and its significance, explain key words like core magazine, academic paper, theme, literature review and research methods. Then, comb the literature, such as theme, literature review and research methods. And based on this, establish the research design.Part Ⅱ:take The People’s University Information:the Higher Education(2012) from China and the American core magazines Research in Higher Education (RHE)and the Journal of Higher Education (JHE)(2011-2012) for example to analyze the differences in themes, literature review and research methods in papers between china and America. After analyzing, I find that there are many differences in these aspects, and papers from America show its unique features. For example, in term of researching theme, they pay more attention to people instead of materials, entry points are small and deep; attach great importance to literature review; research methods are very multiple.Part Ⅲ:analyze reasons for the differences with Bourdieu cultural capital theory. The differences are mainly caused by traditional culture, thinking model, curriculum in universities and the thesis evaluation way. Part Ⅳ:based on the above reasons, several advices are proposed, such as refine research topic, pay more attention to literature review, make curriculum in universities more appropriate and improve academic appraisal system.
