Strengthening the cohesion between secondary and higher vocational education, promoting the connecting between vocational and ordinary education, and building the "Talent Growth Overpass" to achieving lifelong education, is the common practice for the education development around the world. By strengthening the cohesion between secondary and higher vocational education, the modern vocational education system can not only be constructed, but also the society’s need can be satisfied for the talents’ cultivation. At present, the cohesion conceptions, methods, forms and real practices of America that developed in the cohesion process are worth drawing lessons by China. In this paper the specific actions in this two countries is compared, thus to draw lessons for china’s institutions and policies of the cohesion between secondary and higher vocational education.This paper clarifies the situation and features of the cohesion between secondary and higher vocational education by using literature research and comparative research. Basing on this, some enlightenments are obtained for cohesion between secondary and higher vocational education in china through in-depth comprehensive comparison between the two countries in the present situation and the characteristics of vocational cohesion, thus in turn to provide a rich theoretical and practical experience for the construction of the secondary and higher vocational education development as well as a modern vocational education system.This paper includes five parts, and the first part presents the research value, theoretical basis and research status at home and abroad of the cohesion between secondary and higher vocational education between the United States and China. The second part mainly introduces the present status, containing the problems and their causes the cohesion between secondary and higher vocational education in China. The third part introduces the present situation of the cohesion between secondary and higher vocational education in the United States. The fourth part makes a comparative analysis from the content, features and system of the cohesion between secondary and higher vocational education, as well as the reasons of different characteristics and contents. The fifth part expounds the advantages of the United States’, and compared to reflect on the situation of the practice in our country, and gain enlightenment. Finally lessons are drew as well as proposals are put forward to reform the vocational cohesion in our country according to the situation of our own country and the experience from American.
