Vocabulary, as one of the three elements of a language, plays an important role inEnglish study. Without enough vocabulary, we are not able to communicate with otherseffectively in English. However, the present situation of English vocabulary learning is farfrom satisfaction. Vocabulary learning becomes a big problem of senior high schoolstudents. The teacher is faced with serious challenge of how to help students understand,store and apply words efficiently. This paper aims to apply the Lexical Chunk Approach tovocabulary teaching to improve the present situation.When studying the application of the Lexical Chunk Approach in senior high schoolvocabulary teaching, it aims to answer the following questions:1. Does the Lexical Chunk Approach have promoting effect on English vocabularyproficiency of senior high school students?2. Is there an obvious difference between EC and CC in vocabulary “short-termmemory” under different vocabulary teaching methods?3. Is the Lexical Chunk Approach more effective in vocabulary “long-term memory”compared with traditional vocabulary teaching method?This experiment is conducted in two Senior One classes in Jianchang NO.1SeniorHigh School, the experiment which lasts four months has89participants. The LexicalChunk Approach is applied in the experimental class (EC) and the traditional method isadopted in the control class (CC). The analysis of this research indicated that even thoughthere is no obvious difference between EC and CC in short-term memory under differentvocabulary teaching methods, the Lexical Chunk Approach has a positive effect onlong-term memory, and can improve students’ vocabulary proficiency compared withtraditional vocabulary teaching method. This paper includes five chapters, chapter one isintroduction, chapter two is literature review, chapter three is research methodology, and inthis chapter the author does a immediate test, a delayed test and a post test to answer thesecond, the third and the first research question, chapter four is data collection and analysisand chapter five is conclusion. The author does the scientific analysis of data under thehelp of SPSS software before and after the experiments.
