As the saying goes:"there are hundreds expressions of one saying", yet different expressions show varied effects. We human being cannot express effectively without rhetoric when we communicate or write something, In fact, there is no denying that verbal ability of middle school students is critical, and students’ literacy will exert a fundamental influence to future development of Chinese, In daily teaching practice, however, it is a harsh reality that people pay less attention to rhetoric and in turn practice less, or they habitually confine rhetoric in limited area and cut down connections between rhetoric and students’daily life. Furthermore, students’ ability to use rhetoric diverges:some of them good at enriching their language by using rhetoric, yet the others not. Such problem set the author thinking, on the one hand, students should learn how rhetoric is used in reading materials, on the other, students and teachers had better communicate with each other through essay wiring. Unfortunately, literatures on how students use rhetoric in essay writing are rare. Given this, based on the broad view of rhetoric, this study takes a sample of200students’ essays from both Beijing No.4High School and the High School Affiliated to Renmin University of China. The author tries to analyze those rhetorical texts from three angles, namely, theme-situation adaptability, choice of words and expressions, use of rhetoric. Besides, from the view of rhetoric analysis, this study is expected to contribute to teaching of rhetoric at middle school stage.
