As an important part and unique subject of research university faculty, female returnees re faculty of teachers, whether it is from the perspective of academic faculty professional development or from the perspective of female returnees’ return and adaption are essential. However, most of the research about university teachers are generalized study, the research on female academic returnees is very limited and their role is neglected.Targeting at the group of female returnees, The paper adopts qualitative method to inquire the experience of female academic returnees. Based on a comprehensive description of the status of female academic returnees, the paper intends to exploring how the experience of overseas education and working, and how the female status have affected their academic life in the research universities in Shanghai.On foreign experience, the influence mainly comes from the Ph.D courses, training on research, and significant others. Under the combined effect of the interaction between these three sources, female returnees teachers play to their initiative, to construct their own academic career, seek a balance between the reality and ideal.For female returnees teachers, The administrative work both have a positive and negative influence on their academic profession. The positive impact is through the administrative work, female returnees teachers accumulated more social capital, their academic development and other administrative matters are of great benefit.The negative impact mainly in time occupation and emotional impact.In terms of the gender impact, firstly, female returnees are inevitably to bear the traditional "wife and mother" role and the burden of parenting naturally becomes one part of their responsibility. Despite the different attitude on age, family and career, but their careers are to some extent influenced by family status, and the impact change with the child’s age and showing a different stage characteristics. Secondly, female returnees teachers as a career woman, the double evaluation criteria from the outside world bring more pressure and confusion. Finally, gender differences in the academic environment have a explicit or implicit impact and are worth considering.
