Study On Henri Lefebvre’s "the Production Of Space"

Henri Lefebvre was recognized as the "Pioneer of Critique of Everyday Life Theory", the "Pioneer of Modern French Dialectics of regional sociology". He was also the founder of the production of space theory. He opened the theory of "Spatial Turn". He had written more than60books and300published papers for posterity, which was, and still is a rich spiritual heritage."The production of space", which reflected his spatial thinking, represented his all thoughts of space.This paper, consisted of4parts, attempts to sort out Lefebvre’s space ideas and clarifies the formation of Lefebvre’s space production theory. The first part mainly involves the background of his theory and theoretical sources. Marx plays a very important role on the formation of this theory, which should be especially pointed out. The second part mainly explores how Lefebvre formed the thought of space production theory and how he turned to space theory through the analysis of Lefebvre’s early theory of critique of everyday life, in which the city was regarded as a breakthrough of the essence of history of space production in this study. In the third part, the theory of "The production of space" is sorted out. Lefebvre pointed out that the space was the production of social, while space production was a kind of objective and political activities and space contained political and social attribute. He put forward the "dialectique de triplicate", summarized the history of space production. On the basis of analyzing the theory of space and the production of space. Lefebvre emphasized the criticism of capitalism and the strict distinction between abstract space and social space. He pointed out that the production of space was the reason why capitalism survived. Through the spatial analysis, Lefebvre built a general knowledge of space and finally found a political goal of "Differential Space". The last part mainly introduces the influence of Lefebvre’s space production theory. He furthered the Marxism and accelerated the research in Marxism space in Western.By inheriting Marx’s thought, Lefebvre added spatial dimension and developed Marxism from a new perspective. Although the theory has some limitations, it has significant implications for Chinese urbanization.
