Nowadays, as the electronic technology develops vigorously, people become moreand more demanding for electronic products. Thus following the appearance of MP3,MP4and smart phones, another popular digital product-tablet computer comes out.Due to business needs and daily requirements, it is hoped that the tablet computer hasmore powerful functions than the PC, like enabling people to surf the internet and makea phone call whenever and wherever possible. This makes the design of antenna of thetablet computer challenging and difficult. In view of this point, we have conductedseveral in-depth researches on the design of high-performance tablet computer antenna, with main contents as follows:This paper firstly outlines relevant research background and requirements of thetablet computer antenna. At present, the3G mobile communication network has beenlaid on a large scale while the4G-LTE network is also under rapid development. Thisrequires that a tablet computer antenna band should include not only such operatingbands as3G and4G which can provide quick access to the internet and enablehigh-speed downloading, but also communication bands which are downwardcompatible with2G network.Secondly, according to design requirements and difficulties of tablet computerantenna, this paper has put forward three different techniques of designing widebandtablet computer antenna, i.e., coupled-fed technique, parallel resonant structure loadingtechnique and reconfigurable technique, and theoretically analyzed respectiveadvantages of such techniques and relevant applications in design of terminal antenna, providing theory basis for following detailed instruction.Thirdly, on the basis of the most widely used coupled-fed technique of designingtablet computer, and in consideration of tablet computer antenna, this paper introducesan antenna model which can cover LTE/WWAN eight bands. Ansoft HFSS software hasbeen applied in optimization and simulation of the antenna, and simulation analysis hasbeen conducted on the coupled-fed structure.Fourthly, the application of parallel resonant structure loading technique in designing multi-bands tablet computer antenna has also been discussed, presentingfollowing two proposals: distributed parallel resonant structure loading technique andlumped parallel resonant structure loading technique. Those techniques have beenloaded into the antenna through theoretical analysis and simulation, so as to produceparallel resonance and broaden antenna bandwidth.Last, regarding minimum antenna’s space required by terminal equipment, thispaper has also introduced a reconfigurable technique of designing tablet computerantenna, which is a leading technology in design of terminal antenna. Using thistechnique, lumped components can be loaded into the antenna, and the connection ofsuch components with the antenna can be controlled by a RF switch, thus space of theantenna can be minimized as much as possible.
