High Definition Serial Digital Interface (HD-SDI) is a broadcasting standard enacted by Film and Television Engineers Studio in order to meet the needs of digital transmission of video. HD-SDI which is an extension of the serial digital interface (SDI) adopts electrical characteristics and encoding scheme of the SDI.Due to extension on various camera interfaces by the intelligent head system of theodolite, this paper studies HD-SDI interface and HD-SDI signal in depth.During the study, the paper selects a piece of FPGA of Virtex-5series from Xilinx company as the development infrastructure, and uses the Rocket I/O high-speed serial transceivers of this piece of the FPGA to transmit and receive the signals of HD-SDI. Having determined this route, the paper first designs peripheral circuits which can make the FPGA receive the HD-SDI signals through coaxial cable. And then this paper completes the design of the PCB board for the circuit. This circuit supports BNC connectors, can simultaneously drive and balance SD-SDI and HD-SDI and also supports differential outputs.After the FPGA can send and receive HD-SDI signals, the paper uses Rocket I/O GTP transceivers of the FPGA to transmit and receive the differential HD-SDI signals, and also uses the GTP as a deserializer. To support this process, we have written control procedures in order to contrapose HD-SDI signals to properly configurate the GTP.According to the standard HD-SDI (SMPTE292M), the paper also uses the same piece of FPGA to decode the image signals, extracted the eigenvalue received by GTP transceiver and so on. Finally the system obtains the parallel signals which have correct time sequence and are convenient for image processing.The paper also proposes an image preprocessing scheme for image edge extraction, smooth filtering and other processing. The paper uses System generator and Simulink to finish the proposed scheme. In order to perform real-time image processing, the paper employs the scheme to the FPGA.The paper finally successfully realizes the purpose that the FPGA can receive and process the HD-SDI signals.
