| With users’ growing demands for broader network bandwidth, global telecomoperators are trying to explore the best way to transformation. Meanwhile, they are facedwith various problems that need to be solved urgently, like, how to provide more serviceson the existing network; how to enhance enterprise’s competitiveness; how to increaserevenues; how to integrate and sell a variety of business to reduce operation andmaintenance costs; how to make users more satisfied with the network to increase userstickiness and reduce churn rate, etc. However, existing XDSL technology could hardlyaddress these problems. In addition, another complex issue that bothers operators most isthe conflict between existing network transmission distance and bandwidth. At present, acommon solution for this problem in the industry is to use optical fiber access--"Opticalaccess replacing Copper access".In spite of other similar technologies, such as APON/BPON and EPON, PassiveOptical Network (PON) has become the mainstream technology of broadband accessnetworks and GPON (Gigabit-Capable Passive Optical Network) remains to be animportant part of passive optical network (PON) family. GPON with many advantages likehigher bandwidth, greater splitting ratio and higher transmit power, will undoubtedly beable to solve the conflict “between transmission distance and bandwidth ", so it will be anoptical access which will draw most attention.Access network is closest to end-user. Through GEM adaption, GPON-based accessnetwork can not only meet current business needs but also support application of newbusiness in the future such as storage Area Networks ((SAN), digital video and so on.GPON which has provided a clear transmission path for various business needs is currentlyone of the most advantageous technologies for fiber-optic broadband access. With the rapiddevelopment of technology and applications, GPON has become one of the hottechnologies around the world.China Telecom in Jinzhou is also actively exploring and implementing theconstruction of GPON-based access networks. This paper has been compiled by collectingand analyzing the Company’s existing network resources, network status and GPON-based access network construction program during its design and implementation. This paper first introduces GPON’s concept, network structure, working principle aswell as key technologies. In the meantime, the technological advantages for applyingGPON to Jinzhou Telecom access network will also be introduced.Combined with the status of existing telecom networks in Jinzhou, this paper proposesan overall program of GPON-based access network construction for Jinzhou Telecom, including OLT setting, utilization of original machine room, splitter setting, reconstructionmethod of ADSL community and FTTX building mode for different users. This paper focused on the introduction of GPON application scenarios andsummarized the current application model of GPON-based FTTX access networkconstruction. Furthermore, it also proposes strategy and principles for GPON–basedJinzhou Telecom access network construction by analyzing status of optical fiber users’access network and different users’ needs. After studying the actual construction scenes ofBodi Shengli Garden, Shihua New District and Xinghuali residential community in Jinzhoucity, this paper offers design, implementation and completion of GNOP-based accessnetwork construction in above communities. This paper also concluded evaluation indexand overall operation of this program on user capacity, investment, major equipments andeconomic benefits. Through analysis on the economic benefits, it has proven thatGPON-based access network is more economical compared to ADSL in construction costsand has more advantages in maintenance mode and cost, reducing maintenance workloadand costs. Finally, through the analysis on the application of GPON in FTTH access network andprospects on application technology, this paper presents development prospects ofGPON-based access network design and implementation. With declining costs ofequipments (like light source devices) and growing demands for large bandwidth, more andbetter technology will be applied to FTTH access network construction, such10GGPON,WDM-PON and so on. |
