With the rapid development of China’s economy and society, power industry has made considerable progress. In this context, power companies are also facing many challenges, and material management is one of the challenges. From the aspects of the value chain of power material management and taking use of life-cycle management theory, collaborative theory and other advanced methods, the paper discussed the present situation and problems of material intensive management of electric power enterprises, analyzed and summarized the outstanding research achievements of power material management in recent years, in order to achieve a breakthrough in material intensive management of power enterprises.In this paper, we first introduced the background of material intensive management of power enterprises, analyzed and summarized the excellent research findings at home and abroad in recent years, then described the advantages of material intensive management in procurement resource integration, logistics optimization and cost savings to made the concept of material intensive management clear. In second part we expounded the theory of life-cycle management, value chain and supply chain management, logistics, synergetics, group operation and so on. Then taking S Corporation(the large grid enterprise) for example, and taking functional modules of main value activities and auxiliary value activities in value chain theory for flues, we described the present status of power material intensive management and illustrated the problems that power enterprises to be solved. To solve above questions, we put forward the universal program to optimize all aspects of material intensive management in the value chain framework, focusing on a few measures to improve the procurement efficiency. Firstly, made scientific decisions for material planning management by use of information technology platform and life-cycle management approach. Secondly, by application of synergetics theory, shared information of power engineering construction and material planning aspects via e-commerce platform to improve procurement efficiency. Then by using of GIS technology, cloud computing and other advanced computer technology, we can optimize logistics. Finally, we illustrated the evaluation criteria of the material intensive management.The major innovation of the paper are as follows:on one hand, made beneficial attempt for the application of material intensive management by using of life-cycle management theory; on the other hand, taking synergistic theory tried to achieve supplier’s collaboration. The paper stressed value chain and life-cycle management thinking of material management, and described power material management from this perspective, in order to combine theory with practice as much as possible. The paper sought to provide a broad-brush view for material intensive management style and some new references for power enterprise.
