China and Russia, the world’s largest economy giants as adjacent, have long-termpolitical relationships and stable geopolitical advantages. They are under favorableconditions to carry out bilateral trade. In recent years, the bilateral trade volumebetween these two countries record highs, according to China General Administration ofCustoms statistics, in2011, the bilateral trade volume reached79.25billion dollars, ayear-on-year growth of42.7%, which Russia exported38.9billion dollars, ayear-on-year growth of31.4%; since Russia imports of40.35billion dollars, ayear-on-year growth of55.6%; Russia trade deficit reached1.45billion dollars in China;Russia leapt to the tenth largest trading partner for China and China has becomeRussia’s first major trading partner. In June2011, President Hu Jintao and RussianFederation President Dmitry Medvedev in a joint statement, the10anniversary of thesigning of the “Sino-Russian Good-Neighborly Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation"said that they will make deepen pragmatic cooperation in the field of trade, and createthe necessary conditions for the bilateral trade volume up to100billion dollars before2015, up to200billion dollars before2020. At the same time, due to differences inresource endowments, the industrial structure and product trade structure, they havestrong trade complementarity. In the context of global economic integration and thedeepening of bilateral trade, make further study of the Sino-Russian bilateral tradecomplementarity is very important to develop an appropriate international trade policyfor China and promote the Sino-Russian bilateral trade cooperation.On the basis of domestic and international scholars’ researches, this paper willmake a deeper and more comprehensive exploration about the bilateral tradecomplementarity between China and Russia. It is divided into five chapters:First chapter is the introduction, which mainly about the research background andsignificance of the research, research methods and content, then pointed out theinnovation and inadequacies of this paper;The second chapter is a brief introduction of the related international trade theory,which includes Theory of Absolute Advantage, Theory of Comparative Advantage,Factor Endowment Theory, Dynamic Theory of Comparative Advantage andIntra-Industry Trade Theory.The third chapter is the analysis of the overall situation of Sino-Russian bilateral trade. The chapter is divided into three parts: the Sino-Russian trade overview, problemsin bilateral trade, as well as analyze complementary conditions of the Sino-Russiantrade;The forth chapter is the most important part of this paper, Using the TradeCombine Degree index, Revealed Comparative Advantage index, a ComprehensiveTrade Complementarity index and Intra-Industry Trade index to analyze thecomplementarity of the Sino-Russian bilateral trade;The last part is about conclusion and suggestions, In order to promote futuredevelopment of bilateral trade and achieve mutual benefit, China and Russia should takemeasures such as specification of the Sino-Russian trade system, optimize the tradestructure, improve the trade service system and build a free trade zone.
