Correlation Analysis About Unbalanced Development Of Industry And Economic Growth In China Based On The Entropy Measure

Albert Otto Hirschman, a famous American economist, proposed industrialunbalanced development theory from the understanding of the main scarce resourceshould be taken full advantage in1958. The theory is that one country should givepriority to some industries as economy developing fast, depending on the resourceendowments. For some newly developed countries, they should concentrate theirlimited human, material and financial resources to give priority to the development ofsome key industries, which could promote the start-up and development of relatedindustries. The key point of this theory is not only in line with the general laws ofeconomic development, but also reflects the philosophy of dialectics. So, this articlehas important guiding significance for the formulation of national developmentstrategies. In retrospect, our country carried out two obvious unbalanced industrialdevelopment strategies during the economic construction: the first time is to finish theindustrialization by gathering manpower and human resources after our country wasestablished; the second time is to develop the labor-intensive export industry since thereform and opening up. These two unbalanced industrial development strategies, tosome extent, spurred the national economic development, but also with caused somenegative effect. The five-year plan for2011to2015enhanced the strategy of speedingup the readjustment of the economic structure up to the height of the national strategy.In this background, the relevance of both industry imbalance development andeconomic growth attracts considerable attention again.Starting with Hirschman`s unbalanced development theory, we collect andanalysis the actual industrial data of sample cities for nearly a decade years ofeconomic reform and opening-up; Based on the application of entropy theory in theindustrial economy, we defined the industry entropy in the discrete state as well as inthe related state; Through the establishment of the industry entropy model in bothdiscrete state and related state, the integrated use of multivariate statistical analysis,we explored and analyzed the relationship between urban industry imbalancedevelopment and economic growth through quantitative analysis means. Through all above these, it is concluded that there are negative correlation between theeconomic growth and the industry entropy, to reduce the industry entropy is beneficialto economic growth, and its related degree is related to the sample city’s economicregularity.This is the first time to study the relationship between the level of imbalanceindustrial development and economic growth from the perspective of the statedistribution. Besides, this article also verified the application of the theory ofHirschman’s unbalanced development in China’s urban industrial development froman empirical point of view.
