With the rapid growth of the economy, the role of the consumer-driven economic growth is becoming more and more important among three drivers. How to promote residents’ consumption to expand domestic demand has become the focus and hotspot. Now one of the main reasons why the contribution and pulling effect of consumption to economic growth weakened is the low consumption level of rural residents. We should improve the consumption structure to expand consumer demand of rural residents. Engel’s coefficient of rural residents down to50%or less at first time in2000and it is the sign of rural residents enter to the well-off society. However, unreasonable of the consumption structure and uncoordinated consumption structure between areas restricts the upgrading of consumption structure seriously. Exploring consumption structure of rural residents and factors affect consumption structure upgrade has a very important practical significance to guide the rational consumption of rural residents, change consumer attitudes, optimize the structure of consumption of farmers and promote the upgrading of consumption structure. This paper studies the evolution and development trend of rural residents ’consumption structure through quantitative empirical analysis method, and analyzes income and uncertainty on the impact of Chinese rural residents’consumption structure from areas. Then, we have aimed to make some policy recommendations. This paper is divided into six parts:The first part introduces the research background, theoretical significance and practical significance, research ideas, technology roadmap and academic contribution. The second part summarizes the study of foreign consumption function and consumption structure. Then we recalled the research progress of domestic status quo on the consumption structure of rural residents, restricting upgrade factors and suggestion to upgrade promotion about domestic. The third part reviews the historical evolution of the rural residents’ consumption structure and its laws based on cluster analysis. This chapter also analyzes the structural features of the various stages of consumption, focusing on analysis of the status of the consumption structure after2000.The fourth part, Chinese25provinces are divided into four regions based on factor analysis. We compare different regions of rural residents about net income, consumption level and consumption structure differences after entering a well. The fifth part derived the consumption structure model of precautionary savings theory and analyzed the heterogeneity of the four major regional consumption structures from two aspects through panel data model. First, we analyzed influencing factors of the consumption expenditure structure among different regions from income and uncertainty. Second we analyzed influencing factors of the consumption expenditure structure among different regions from different sources of income. The sixth part, according to the results of the foregoing analysis, the policy proposals put forward to promote the upgrading of the consumption structure of rural residents in China.
