City is the center of a region for developing economy, in which most Non-agricultural population living. Adjusting the level of economic development of a region, the scale of urban land of this region is a most important indicator. Because advantages of urban living conditions and improved infrastructures, city have a strong attraction for surplus labor forces who lived in rural areas. So, with the increasing of urban population, more and more problems which brought by urban expansion become an issue should be solution. Yangzhou, a famous ecological tourism city with rich historical and cultural traditions, with the development of economic, would have a large scale of urban land. How to coordinate the relationship between economy and ecology is an important problem that must be solved in the development processes.This paper, combining the actual situations of Yangzhou, analysis main factors which can affect the expansion of urban land in this area, in the basis of existing data, and makes use of ANN-CA model to simulate future layouts of urban land of Yangzhou city under different scenarios which contain free development, ecological priority and plan intervention, in order to provide reference for coordinating economic development and ecological protection better in the development processes of Yangzhou city. The results show that arranging urban land reasonable can not only develop economy but also protect ecology.This paper contains five parts as follow:The first part is introduction. This part mainly introduces background and significance of this study, research progress of domestic and international, objective and contents, methods and technology route, and potential innovations and deficiencies.The second part is basic theories and model. This part defines the concept of urban land and the type of urban expansion in this paper, introduces the basic concepts related. Then this part explains why urban land expands, how urban land expands and what a scale is suitable with relevant basic theories. The last of this part introduce ANN-CA model and its parameters in this study.The third part introduces condition of Yangzhou city and analysises factors which influence urban expansion of Yangzhou city. This part introduces natural, socio-economic and land use overview of Yangzhou city firstly, and then selects factors with the actual condition of Yangzhou city, and explain how these factors effect urban expansion.The forth part is simulation of urban expansion. On the basis of forecasting total number of urban land in simulation target year, this part simulates urban expansion of Yangzhou city under different scenarios by means of ANN-CA model, and compares final simulated results.The fifth part is conclusions and prospects. This part reviews the process of this research, summarizes main conclusions, discusses deficiencies and proposes prospects.
