| China’s beef cattle industry is undergoing tremendous change, from the traditionalhousehold sideline to current prospering agricultural and economic activity, becoming animportant industry that promotes agricultural efficiency, farmers’ incomes and circulareconomy development in the rural areas. In recent years, beef cattle production has beenseen a rapid expansion in the number and scale, with husbandry technology, industrialorganization and industrial chain continuing to progress. But the beef cattle industry isfacing unprecedented challenges, mainly for low-quality beef problem, irrational industrystructure and increasing pressure in ecological and environmental protection. China’s beefcattle industry is at an important transition, thus an appropriate commercial mode being ofgreat significance to sustain the stable development of the beef cattle industry and enhanceindustrial efficiency.By using PEST analysis and Porter’s five forces analysis method, we analyzedmacro-and micro-economic environment of the beef cattle industry in Jiangxi Province;SWOT method has been applied to evaluate economic advantages and disadvantages ofbeef cattle manufacturing industry in Jiangxi Province, and we found that Jiangxi had richforage crop resources, sustained sufficient cattle stocks, and gained regional edge for itsclose to the coastal developed areas; However, duo to less diversified development onconsumption, beef cattle industry in Jiangxi province remained monotonous cattlemanufacture style. Meanwhile, lack of high quality cattle breeds made it hard to build suchfamous beef brands that could help establish a positive and large-scale market, thereforeforcing current backward manufacturing technology to escalate. In conclusion, first, only with leverage of financial and policy support towards economy-scalable andenvironment-friendly development of beef cattle industry would Jiangxi province changethe existing mode of production and management pattern. Based on up-to-date facts, wedid research about effects on beef cattle industrilization of planting-breeding combinedcyclic farming mode and leader-motivating agricultural cooperative mode.Empirical analysis, carried out on beef cattle industry developmentmodes, environment and management impacts for them in Gao’an city of Jiangxi province, shows that:(1) in environment perspective: Gao’an city’s superior geographical conditionsand natural resources, good beef cattle industry foundation, and government aids in breedsources construction, breed improvement, industrial organization, financial services, development of forage grass resources and breeding technology improvement altogetheroffer Gao’an an agreeable industrial and ecological environment for the development ofbeef cattle industry;(2) in management perspective,1) cyclic agricultural development model takes full advantages of abundant rainfall, sunlight and herbage yield in southernchina, thus combining cattle breeding and grass planting and effectively convertingpotential benefits of forage grass into additional value of beef cattle, and with methane as abond, it can form a virtuous cycle between each industry, with a consequence in anecologically-sustainable low-carbon economy. Circular agriculture development model, therefore, is worth promoting in Jiangxi province.2) leader-motivating agriculturalcooperative mode is operated through the establishment of collaboration betweenfarmer-cooperatives and leading enterprises. So farmers’ access to the market became suchdependent on cooperative that it served farmers from calf introduction, feed purchase, husbandry management and guidance to beef distribution to the market, which reducedsusceptibility to unpredictable market because of uni-structure of family retailers. Thismode results in an interest-sharing, risk-splitting community, which is favorable forsustainable development of beef cattle industry, but also cracking benefit contradictionbetween farmers, enterprises and consumers. Such a win-win mode that is also feasible inJiangxi Province needs to be promoting province-wide as well. |
