Chain supermarkets have become an important type of operation for retailindustry, which simplifies and specializes complex commercial activities throughscale management. Besides, the unified management of each subbranch’s operationprocesses, including purchasing, delivery and accounting, helps to reduce theoperation cost of each subbranch (lower than the separate operation cost), realizingresource sharing, boosting scale merit and improving overall competitiveness. Withthe development of market economy and intensification of competition, reformationin product structure, purchasing strategy, delivery and underselling is required tofurther lower the operation cost of chain supermarkets and seek higher profit.The operation and development of logistics distribution system has an immediateimpact on the operation cost, business efficiency, service quality and the profitabilityof a company. As the key link in the overall operation process of chain supermarkets,logistics distribution has the ability to bring in better cost and competitive edge withunified procurement and distribution. Hence, scientific methods are needed in theimprovement and optimization of logistics distribution. The core content of logisticsdistribution, Vehicle Routing Problem, has a great effect on the speed, cost and profitof delivery, and plays a major role in promoting the efficiency of logistics distributionand quality of services.This paper focuses on the distribution route optimization of the self-supportingdistribution center of Jiabaijia Chain Supermarket. After collecting and analyzing thedata and materials of relevant distribution route of the Supermarket, problems inimproper distribution route from the distribution center to each supermarket and lowefficiency of truck loading are spotted in this paper. Genetic Algorithm, which isefficient in universal searching, is adopted to solve the VRP model of Jiabaijia ChainSupermarket. The optimized solution is obtained by Matlab programming. On thebasis of meeting the delivery time of each subbranch, the distribution route isoptimized and the total mileage of distribution is shortened, realizing the reduction ofdistribution cost and the promotion of corporate profitability.
