After almost ten years’ development, the tourism in the Yilivalley area has achieved considerable success. However, there still exits some problems such as unclearbrand positioning and low level of development for the lack and limitation of funds, technologies, talents,and advanced ideas. Therefore, to achieve the change from the potential advantage of unique resources tothe practical advantage of sound economies and to promote the tourism as well as the local economic andsocial development turn out to be the source of power and aim when it comes to how we should enlarge thescale and enhance the quality of the tourism in the Yili valley area.The paper, with the general principle of industry development, provides a practical study on thestrategy of the tourism development in Yili valley area and a preliminary study on the theory of the strategyon the regional tourism development. The studies above are carried out according to the followingresearching method: it starts with the analysis of the theory, the current state and nature, SWOT, the aimand mode and in the end it puts forward the related strategies and measures. The paper also gives anevaluation to the basic conditions of developing tourism in Yili valley area and deeply analyzes the currentstate and nature of the local tourism. In the analysis of SWOT, the paper puts forward its ideas andsuggestions in developing the tourism on the basis of making an analysis and forecast of the marketprospect of the national tourism, giving a basic evaluation and judgment of the economic prospect of thetourism in the valley area, and summarizing the strength, weakness, opportunity, and threat that the localtourism is facing with.The paper makes a deep analysis of the current state, existing problems and development conditions ofthe tourism in the Yili valley area and points out the effects that the new polices, especially the westerndevelopment campaign, have on the Yili tourism.
