In recent years, climate change problems such as the greenhouse effect caused by carbon dioxideemissions seem to be more and more concerned by communities. As carbon emissions powers, Chinafaces the huge pressure for taking responsibility of reduction from all over the world, while the statusquo is difficult to change in a short time. How to seek a valid way that keeps the export trade growingsteadily and controls the emissions of carbon dioxide at the same time? Exploring the carbon dioxideemissions reduction potential and improving the efficiency of carbon dioxide emissions become moreand more concerned. In this paper, we constructed an improved regional model for estimating thevalue of carbon emissions embodied in export trade and an extensional structural decompositionmodel for the underlying driving factors, then took Jiangsu province as an example for empiricalanalysis. At first, through setting import coefficient and using the input-output analysis method, weconstructed the improved regional model for estimating the value of carbon emissions embodied inexport trade, which eliminates the impact of the import products; Secondly, on the basis of the modelof "two-polar decomposition method" we gradually derived construction of the double nestedstructure decomposition analysis model for carbon emissions increase embodied in export. Comparedwith most of the existing models, the double nested model in the decomposition quantity of drivingfactors is much more complete, thus it can better reflect the increase essence and connotation of theregional embodied carbon emissions and some extent avoid complex residuals.According to the construction of the above estimating and decomposition model, we tookJiangsu province as a case to make an empirical analysis. From the empirical analysis results, Jiangsuprovince’s carbon dioxide emissions embodied in export trade in2002-2007appeared rapid growthcompared with1997-2002phase, further more we found that the export structure change, finaldemand expansion and export scale expansion are the main factors for the embodied carbon dioxideemissions increase, and energy efficiency improvement is the main reason for the embodied carbonemissions decrease through the structural decomposition analysis. On the basis of the empirical results,we put forward some policy suggestions.
